Topic: Wood Flute making
I worked on the Hand Crafted Wood Flutes web site and added the page Black Walnut wood flute in G. Sometimes flute projects that you think will go good don’t. And others you do on a whim go great. The black Walnut flute was done on an impulse and went well. The finishing coats came out nice. I discussed those finishing techniques on the Wood Flute site.
A while back I talked about my router dying and laying in shambles on top of the work bench. I got enough coin together to order a new one from Sears. I always trusted their tools and never had any problems with them. And for the price you can’t really complain about it. This router has both a ¼ and ½ collets which you need to make big bore flutes. I got a Sears Craftmens ¼ router a long time ago as a gift (about 20 years back). And it still is working fine. Unfortunately with the 1/4 bit size limit it doesn’t fit the 7/8 inch core box bit.
I’m not going to mention the name of the router that dyed an early death. I only got about a year out of it or about 20 wood flutes. But I will say it takes a lot of Skil to make flutes. It has been awhile since I made a flute and I’m getting itchy.
