Topic: Wood Flute making
Inspiration struck me on a winter morning to build a drone flute. I had a vision of this wooden flute playing a beautiful melody. A song to reach the heart.
Drones can really create a haunting sound.
This vision was a big bore flute made out of western red cedar. I could smell the aromatic shavings coming from the cedar when I was creating it in my backwoods shop.
Then I started to make this vision a reality. I prepared the flute blanks for the boring portion of wood flute making. My vision was becoming a living and breathing piece of art.
Then it happened. The 7/8 bit started to slow down to a crawl. The router died.
That was a month ago. And the router is still lying on the workbench in pieces. My southwest friend said perhaps I should just buy a new one.
I don’t know what motivated me to think about it. Perhaps my woodworking hands missed touching the western red cedar. Or my senses picking up the scent of fresh cedar.
I have a vision of a large bore drone cedar flute playing a beautiful song from the heart.
