What can you do with a piece of Black Cherry limb? Make a wood candle holder out of it. I got the wood for this from a logging operation not far from my home. The loggers took what they wanted off of the forest tract and left some beautiful pieces of workable Black cherry behind.
To be truthful I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it. At first I was thinking of possibly a fine-looking wood flute. After this wood candle holder project I renewed my interest in making a flute out of it.
I had a 2 foot hunk of it sitting on my studio floor next to the lathe for quite awhile. I was having a bad day making a flute so I put it away and I actually sort of trip over it. So I cut a piece off and chucked it in the lathe.
And this is how it turned out. It has a naturally dark swirly grain wood with highlighted markings. I left some of the cherry bark on the bottom to give it accent. This art piece is spoken for already. It didn’t take long for someone to notice it and want it for their collection.
Please leave a comment if you like. Be kind. Not especially for me but the other readers of the Wind and Wood blog. Thanks.
