Using relaxing music for tension headaches.

You jump in your car and head into work with the attitude of a great day. It starts out good until some stressful situations pop up. You try to deal with it but then again more tension builds up and crawls slowly to the top of your head. The pressure becomes unbearable.

Your so thankful to be able to go home at quitting time if you can make it that long. You think that relaxing with your eyes closed in a dark room will relieve your tension that seems to continue lurking in your head.

Tension headaches are more likely to happen to females more than males. Chronic tension headaches can last more than 60 days.

What are the causes of tension headaches.

Tension headaches are not generally a family inherited trait. Tension or muscle strain builds in the upper back and into the neck in some cases. In others it could be an internal caused stress from family related, school, work, or other similar items.

  • Fatigue or overexertion or both. An example would be exercising too hard and straining the muscles of the neck and upper back.
  • Not enough sleep or relaxation time. Working those long hours and not letting your body recuperate.
  • Anxiety or depression. These two items can do a lot of damage to your personal being.
  • Poor eating habits. Eating the wrong foods or a poor diet can cause tension headaches plus other things like low energy levels.

The purpose of this article is to introduce using music for relaxing and to give headache relief to victims of tension or stress headaches. I will not go into using of drugs or other doctor prescribed methods.

The knowledge of music therapy has been around since ancient times. It has been used to help soldiers recover from both mental and physical injuries.

Listening to relaxing music stimulates relaxation response in the body and mind. Stress and tension can actually melt away listening to a soothing music blend. This in turn lowers blood pressure and a reduced heart rate.

That blend of soft tones from that calming song can affect physiological processes such as heart rate. It also helps to release endorphins. These are your body’s own natural pain killers that can help relieve you from tension headaches.

Music therapy has been found to increase melatonin and epinephrine in Alzheimer patients. The body’s chemicals help control mood, depression and sleeping.

Relaxing music can be used for pain management to help you relax and taking your mind off the ache and hurt you are dealing with.

What types of relaxing music can I use for therapy?

Finding what kinds of relaxation music works for you depends on;

  • Your personality
  • Finding that tone or rhythm that is relaxing for you.

Maybe it is Bach, or piano instrumentals that mellow you out. There are ways of finding out. You can check out this article "finding your relaxation CD to relieve stress" to help find your calming music mix.

A way to use relaxing music to heal the headache is to lie down in a comfortable dark room and put on the music at a soft tone.

Listening to soft and calming music during the day can help you keep in a relaxed state of mind. Especially if you can listen to an IPod at work. When those bothersome fellow employees come around to get you worked up full of tension just turn up the volume and smile. Relaxing or sometimes called healing music can bring serenity to your life. An inner peace that can enrich and purify.

I hope this helps you out. If that tension headache persist without relief see a medical doctor.
